ARTISTIC STATEMENT

My music communicates compelling narratives through expressive lyricism, vibrant orchestration, and intuitive structures. Equally at home composing for instruments and voices, I’ve built a diverse body of work that draws inspiration from the classical repertoire, modern art and literature, and contemporary pop sounds.

From a young age, I was drawn to music and its creative possibilities. After studying piano for most of my childhood, I fell in love with singing, and my earliest compositions were for solo voices and choral ensembles. Throughout high school and my undergraduate years, my compositional practice grew in parallel with my vocal development. My background in classical voice is an essential element of my artistic identity, and it continues to shape my musical instincts and the projects I pursue.

Singers embrace their roles as storytellers, and the goal of connecting with an audience permeates every aspect of vocal training. I bring this perspective to my compositional practice, always remembering that my music will eventually be heard and therefore must say something worthwhile. As a result, transparency and clarity of direction are defining characteristics of my style. I create intuitive musical forms that allow my music to unfold and develop in logical, inevitable ways. This isn’t to say that my music is predictable; rather, my music builds narratives that prepare listeners to follow and understand even the most unexpected choices.

A versatile and enthusiastic collaborator, I deeply value opportunities to work with other creators. My creative partners have included adventurous solo artists, children’s book authors, choreographers, poets, and animators. I enjoy collaborative, multidisciplinary projects that make new demands on my technique and stretch my artistry — meaningful developments that always inform my subsequent works.
