Praised for his “chilling refinement in bearing and voice” (Opera Wire), Thandolwethu Mamba has been described as having a “magnificent voice” and “possessing an extraordinary capacity for timbral flexibility, which he exploits with a level of artistic maturity and musical tact” (Classical Voice of North Carolina). Mr. Mamba is a baritone from Eswatini who continues to establish himself on opera and concert stages, showcasing his command of diverse styles and repertoire. A Cafritz Young Artist with the Washington National Opera, Mr. Mamba recently made an exciting house and role debut as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro at the John F. Kennedy Center. This season, he also sang as Simon in Treemonisha, George in Mickey Dee and the Eclipse (Ragland/Gonzalez), and Businessman/Baobab/Hunter in The Little Prince with Washington National Opera. In concert, he sang as Betto in Gianni Schicchi with the National Symphony Orchestra, and performed selections from La bohème as Marcello with the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra. This summer, Mr. Mamba joins the Glimmerglass Festival to cover Guglielmo in Così fan tutte, sings as Jess in Oklahoma!, and covers Senator Potter/General Arlie in Fellow Travelers. Next season, he will sing the role of Giorgio Germont in La traviata and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly with the Washington National Opera.
