
Madeleine LYON
Praised for her “striking visual presence” and “glorious voice”, mezzo-soprano Madeleine Lyon is enchanting audiences on the operatic stage. She is a recent graduate of the Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program at the Los Angeles Opera, where she was seen in El último sueño de Frida y Diego by Gabriela Lena Frank, as well as Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg. Also with Los Angeles Opera, Ms. Lyon performed as Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor in a new production co-produced with the Metropolitan Opera, Bianca in The Rape of Lucretia, Genevieve/Yniold in Impressions of Pelléas, Bithia in Moses by Henry Mollicone, and covered the role of Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro. Most recently, she covered the role of Lorca in Ainadamar and sang Giovanna in Rigoletto with LA Opera. Upcoming engagements include Margravine/Angel 2 in Snider’s Hildegard with Aspen Opera Theater and covering Frida Image in El Último sueño de Frida y Diego at the Metropolitan Opera.
As a Gerdine Young Artist, Ms. Lyon covered the role of Sesto and performed as Nireno in Handel’s Julius Caesar with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. As a fellow at the Ravinia Steans Music Institute, she performed in numerous recitals and concerts. Notably, Ms. Lyon was featured in a master class led by prolific conductor Marin Alsop, as well as in a jazz concert curated by Grammy Award-winning singer Kurt Elling. Other previous roles include Zerlina in Don Giovanni, the title role in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges, and Taller Zegner in Missy Mazzoli’s Proving Up.
On the concert stage, Ms. Lyon made her solo debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel at the Hollywood Bowl. She has also performed as the mezzo soloist in the Mozart Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, and selections from the Verdi Requiem with companies including Recently, she performed Zemlinsky’s Op. 13 with James Conlon for the Ziering-Conlon Initiative for Recovered Voices.
Ms. Lyon is also an avid painter and loves to spend time with her grey tabby cat, Pickle. She holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Rice University.
