Edward GRAVES

Edward Graves has been praised by Opera News as a tenor of "stunningly sweet tone." In the 2026-2027 season, he will make a role and company debut at Opera Colorado as Macduff in Macbeth, followed by an appearance as the tenor soloist in Handel's Messiah at Portland Baroque Orchestra, continuing his artistic collaboration with Gary Wedow. He will also make a role debut as Don José in Carmen with the Greenville Symphony, return to Opera Baltimore for Macbeth, and sing his first Verdi Messa da Requiem with the Bucks County Choral Society. He finishes the season with another company debut as Rodolfo in La Bohème at Opera Idaho.

In 2024, Edward made a series of notable role and company debuts, including the Duke in Rigoletto with Opera San José, Alfredo in La traviata with Opera Tampa, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni with Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor with Opera in Williamsburg, and Rodolfo in La Bohème with Opera Delaware and Opera Baltimore. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut as First Armored Man in The Magic Flute and returned in 2025 to cover the roles of First Armored Man and Second Priest in Die Zauberflöte.

Additional 2025 engagements included performances with Anchorage Opera as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, the Savannah Voice Festival as the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, Opera Omaha as the tenor soloist for their Opera Outdoors concert, Houston Grand Opera as Robbins in Porgy and Bess, and Harmonia Orchestra & Chorus as the tenor soloist in Handel's Messiah. In 2026 he debuted at Virginia Opera as Wilson in Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer's newest opera, Intelligence, and with Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra as the tenor soloist in Haydn's Theresienmesse. He also returned to Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera as Alfredo in La traviata and tenor soloist in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, San Francisco Opera as Rodolfo in Bohème Out of the Box, and Opera San José as a soloist in their Opera in the Rose Garden concert.

Edward Graves is a graduate of the prestigious Merola Program and Adler Fellowship at San Francisco Opera. During his tenure, he performed as Stone/Eunuch in Bright Sheng's Dreams of the Red Chamber, Gastone in La traviata, covered the roles of Alfredo in La traviata and Lensky in Eugene Onegin, sang Rodolfo in Bohème Out of the Box, covered the title role in Omar, and performed as Ruiz in Il trovatore.
In 2023, Edward earned critical acclaim as Anatol in Barber's Vanessa at the Spoleto Festival USA. He also performed with the Virginia Symphony in Handel's Messiah, Detroit Opera as Policeman 2 in Blue, and Berkshire Choral International in the title role of Judas Maccabaeus. His appearance in the Merola Opera Program's What the Heart Desires earned a San Francisco Chronicle rave for his "superbly bright, clarion sound."

Edward was a 2022 San Francisco District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera's Laffont Competition, a 2023 recipient of the Richard F. Gold Career Grant from the Shoshana Foundation, a 2024 Fifth Place Winner of the Loren L. Zachary Society Vocal Competition, a 2024 Second Place Winner of the Cedar Rapids Opera Esther & Myron Vocal Competition, and a 2025 Third Place Winner of the Opera Columbus Cooper-Bing Competition. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Towson University and a Performer Diploma and Master of Music in Voice Performance from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music.
